Religious fundamentalism, whether Christian or of any other faith, while not in every case leading to repression, persecution, and bloodshed, by its very nature, which is exclusivism, holds within itself the seeds of intolerance finds ready acceptance by this that are lured into or eagerly accept fundamentalism. It is the nature of the beast to establish itself as the One True Voice of God, and to brook no competition from those it designates as Inferior Expressions or Counterfeits of the Faith it represents, and for which it makes claims to solely represent in the world of men.
Fundamentalism cannot even exist without other expressions of that faith on which to pounce and denounce. Fundamentalism inevitably leads to persecution in its efforts to assert its sovereignty and exercise its power.
The most obvious examples of this lust for blood is seen in the well documented Witch Hunts of Europe and the New World under the influence of Fundamentalist Christians. Despite the crimes of which 'witches' were accused, suffered by ordeal, and met with terrible deaths, not one shred of evidence was ever found against any of the 'witches' that would stand up under the scrutiny of reasonable people. Only those whose world is inhabited by flying demons lashing out at them and eager to devour them and consign them to Hell in their distorted versions of Christianity find 'proof' that these 'witches' are worthy of death.
The only 'evidence' is that which is generated by some Hellish fear in the mind of Fundamentalists that then project their own delusions onto their victims. The fervour with which they assert their genuine affection and concern for their victims is matched only by the stealth and cunning with which they track them down and despatch them to the next life, confident that this activity is the burden that a kind and just God has laid on them. The delusional system of Fundamentalists is complete and unassailable.
If there is one thing a Fundamentalist Anti-Mormon cannot tolerate, besides tolerance, it is a contrary opinion or idea, and this shows the extent to which the soul of the tormentor is held in thrall by an unseen and ungodly power. Yet, as was the case with Witch Finding, accusations are made and acted upon, and because of this the Innocent are made to suffer. They suffer because of the ignorance, fear, envy, and the 'misplaced religious zeal' of their Cult Leaders. This is not said unkindly, but because according to their own definition of what constitutes a 'Cult' in their specific terminology, and which is different from the definition in Standard English, they have a charismatic leader, such as the late Walter R Martin founder of CRI, Sandra [and the late Jerold] Tanner, J Edward Decker of Ex-Mormons for Jesus/Saint's Alive in Jesus, Doug Harris of Reach Out Trust, Rocky and Hellen Hulse of Midwest Mission Mormon Outreach, Jim Robinson of Concerned Christians, etc, each of which heads up a Fundamentalist ministry intent on saving Mormons from Mormonism at whatever cost to Mormons individually and corporately that they deem fitting.
The German Nazi Party was Fundamentalist at its core and in its practices. Comparisons of Fundamentalist Evangelical Ministries with Hitler's Far Right Fascist party do not stretch the imagination too far. the aim of both is total control, manipulation of truth, execration of their enemies, and the generation and publication of images of their enemies using all forms of media that make them unattractive in the eyes of the uninformed by painting gross and untruthful caricatures that do not stand up to scrutiny.
Hitler's Third Reich hated Jews and militated against them to move the focus of the German people from their German leaders' responsibilities for the First World War and the crippling economic price paid by the German people in reparations for their brutal war and blame Jews for Germany's ills. It invented the International Jewish Conspiracy using forged documents and an already discredited book that was reissued as "The Minutes of the Meetings of the The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," a fraudulent antisemitic text purporting to describe a Jewish plan to achieve global domination. This tissue of lies convinced decent Germans that Jews everywhere were plotting for their downfall. The result was that these convinced of Jewish malignancy stood by and did nothing as upwards of 8,000,000 Jewish men. women, and children, including babies, were shipped off to death camps. Their crimes? They were Jewish. that was enough!
This is the model used by Fundamentalist ministries to persuade decent Christians that Mormons are the Spawn of Satan, and are to be denied their human rights, harried, persecuted, and attacked unmercifully with whatever lies or misconstructions they can fashion in the workshop of the demi-god that motivates them to such actions.
In 1983 it took a schoolboy to point out what other Christians could not see when Evangelist Billy Adams of Georgia stoked the fire of hatred under the congregation of The Community Church of God to burn Rock and Roll records and tapes that Adams had declared were 'the Devil's music.' Adams; ignorance of music genres was evidently shared by his entranced congregation. They were whipped into a blind frenzy by the Fundamentalist pastor and besides Rock and Roll they burned Judy Collins [folk], Merle Haggard [Country], Freddie Fender [MOR and Pop], and the Mills Brothers [MOR and Gospel]. The Cincinnati Enquirer of March 5th, 1983 reported that a schoolboy said, "This is barbaric! This is what the Nazi did."
Why couldn't Adams' see that and why couldn't those whose heads he filled with hatred? We could ask where these conflagrantes got the music they suddenly hated enough to burn, and we would not be far wrong if we replied, "From their own music libraries."
